Central Malta

This area is most well known for the ancient citadel of Mdina and the nowadays capital of Malta, Valletta. Oozing with history, the walled city of Mdina is home to St Paul’s Cathedral and is known as the Silent City. Valletta was built by the Knights of St John in the 16th and 17th centuries and was said to be a city built by gentleman for gentlemen. To this day it still retains an air of aristocratic elegance. It is home to many of Malta’s most important museums and monuments and has been named a World Heritage site. Across the Grand Harbour from Valletta, are the historic fortified towns of Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea, known as the Three Cities. Left largely unvisited, the Three Cities are a slice of authentic life, and a glimpse into Malta’s maritime past. On the east coast lies the main seaside resort of Sliema which was once the preserve of the Maltese upper classes and to this day it is still a status symbol to own a residence here. Lying north of Sliema is cosmopolitan St Julian’s with hotels, apartments and private villas rising along its rocky shoreline. Paceville is the in the heart of St Julian’s and is known as the nightlife capital of Malta.

St Julians
Picturesque St Julian’s is one of Malta’s main coastal resort towns. Originally a small fishing village, St Julian’s has now grown considerably and has merged with neighbouring Silema and Paceville to become a vibrant, bustling centre. To one side of St Julian’s lies St Georges Bay and to the other is Spinola Bay with the town of Paceville situated on the hill between the two. Paceville is Malta’s main nightlife centre, where there are clubs, casinos and numerous restaurants, cafes and bars. Charming Spinola Bay is still used by fishermen whose traditional boats are housed just below the restaurants. The bay is particularly attractive at night and as a venue for open-air dining. St Julian's Bay has a large rocky bathing beach with a number of watersports on offer. The elegant Spinola Palace, built in 1658 by an Italian knight, Giovanni Spinola, is the landmark historic building on the bay. Another fine building with superb sea views is Villa Dragonara, now a casino, on the headland of St George's Bay. The promenade, which runs for several kilometres from Gzira just south of Sliema to St Julian's, is ideal for walker and joggers. There are plenty of seats along the promenade and on summer evenings the seafront becomes a sociable meeting place for locals. The coastline has two tower fortifications: a De Redin watch tower built in the 17th century; the other was built by the British in neo-gothic style in the 1880s. We have 1 villas in St Julians.
