Eastern Countryside
In the Algarve's Eastern Countryside life is slow and unhurried. Street markets are the main social gathering place and you'll find some great bargains as well as local colour. Restaurants are plentiful and vary enormously in style, yet most serve excellent food and drink at very reasonable prices. The biggest industry in the eastern Algarve countryside is agriculture, but the area is also well known for cork plantations, tallow candles and a fine brandy made from locally grown fruit. A quiet and pretty area in the Algarve the eastern countryside offers fantastic views, unspoilt natural beauty and bustling towns and villages full of true Portuguese character.
The Eastern Countryside encompasses the rural region to the north of Faro and the country towns of Loule and Sao Bras, which are thriving market towns. many of the villas are close to small villages where the pace of life is slow and quiet, here you're still likely follow a horse and cart up the lanes. Santa Barbara and Estoi are well worth a visit if only for a relaxing excursion back in time.
Loule
Loule has a beautiful, historic centre and lies inland, 12 km from the coast. The town is well known for its traditional artisans and shops are filled with souvenirs made from copper and leather, belts, bags and shoes. Saturday morning the streets are bustling with visitors to Loulés famous market. There are a variety of cafes and restaurants, where you can sample the delicious, traditional local cuisine. Loule has a castle open to tourists with a museum, which is devoted to the town’s local history. It is a short drive to the town of Almancil which has an excellent selection of both local and international restaurants, which are well worth a visit with the fabulous beaches and facilities of Vale do Lobo just a few kilometres further on. The hills surrounding Loulé boast some beautiful holiday villas, many with views to the coast. We have 3 villas in Loule.
