Only a short drive from beautiful sandy beaches and watersports facilities, this modern, well appointed two storey villa is set in an elevated position surrounded by sunterraces and lawns. The villa enjoys spectacular views across vineyards and olive trees to the mountains and sea beyond. Located in an attractive residential development on the edge of the beautiful, traditional Cretan village of Skouloufia ,Villa Aegle neighbours many ancient monuments from the Byzantine and Venetian periods. Enjoy Cretan hospitality – and free coffee, wine and raki - at the café/bar within the development and relax into a memorable family holiday. For larger families or groups, Villa Rini and Villa Melia are nearby.

Interior

An open-plan, modern living area opens up to the first floor level. Large picture windows at ground and first floor levels look out onto the swimming pool area and sunbathing terraces. There is an open fireplace. A modern, open-plan staircase leads to the upper level and a balconied walkway which leads to the upstairs rooms and which overlooks the living area. There is a further staircase from the living area which leads down to the basement which houses two additional rooms with a pool table, toilet; this is an ideal venue to enjoy a game of pool or to use as a separate entertainment room. Leading off the living area is a separate, brightly decorated dining room with modern dining furniture and patio doors opening onto the terrace and pool area. At the other end of the living area there is a modern, well equipped kitchen with breakfast table and two sets of patio doors opening onto the pool area. On the upper level, there is a master bedroom with double bed, wall-mounted television and en suite bathroom with Jacuzzi. There are two further bedrooms one with twin beds and one with a single bed and these share a shower room. The villa is air conditioned throughout and has a home cinema system and an internet connection.

Exterior

A flight of steps leads up from a pedestrianised walkway. Large sun terraces furnished with sun loungers and parasols surround the 6 x 4.5m swimming pool with hydro massage jet which is accessed by ladder steps. There is a poolside shower. There is a barbecue for guests to prepare delicious meals to enjoy al fresco seated at the patio dining table and chairs whilst watching the glorious sunsets over the mountains and the sea. The area is pleasantly landscaped with grassed lawn areas and citrus trees. There is a private, off-street parking space to the rear of the villa.

Amenities

This residential villa development is situated on the outskirts of the attractive, historic Cretan village of Skouloufia and is only 5.5km from the nearest beach. The development has a private café/bar built in a traditional Cretan style and serving free coffee, tea, wine and the local speciality, raki, for the exclusive enjoyment of guests. The village is only 8km (5miles) from the large, sandy Stavromenos beach which has taverns selling traditional Cretan dishes and which is a favourite nesting ground of the endangered Carretta Carretta seaturtle, which clambers up onto these golden shores once a year to lay their eggs. 4km (2.5miles) from here is the Adele beach with its watersports facilities and a selection of bars. The villa’s nearest selection of full restaurants, bars, tavernas and a supermarket is 3km (2miles) away in the 3,000 year old town of Elefterna, where the remains of an ancient Greco-Roman city were excavated. For more cosmopolitan dining and livelier nightlife the town of Rethymno is only 18km (11miles) away. The area is dotted with ancient and historical monuments dating back to the Ottoman and Byzantine eras, notably the amazing stalagmites and stalactites of Cavern of Melidoni, which is a site of particular archaeological and historical interest, and the monastery of Arkadi. In order to enjoy the delights this beautiful area of Crete has to offer car hire is considered essential for this villa.
